70 Years!

Today, June 4, Retired Minister Doug Jones and his wife Ruth, celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary!  That’s right, they were married in 1954 when a new car was $1,900 and a house cost under $20,000. Gas was 22 cents a gallon and Bill Haley and the Comets were Rocking Round the Clock.  While Doug was still a seminary student at Erskine, he planted Rogers Memorial ARP Church in Rock Hill, SC.  Even though Doug was a good typist, he recruited Ruth to type the bulletin on Saturday nights just so he could spend time with her.  For Doug, it was love at first sight!  They fell in love then and are still in love to this day.  They attribute their many years of marriage to always putting the Lord first in their relationship with each other and in every area of life.

Doug, 96, is one of the senior ministers in the ARPC.  He and Ruth served Tucker ARP in Atlanta and Old Providence in VA until joining the USAF in 1960.  They served in Germany, Arizona, California, Japan, Mississippi, Korea, Ohio, and Florida before retiring in 1988.  Doug then pastored Ebenezer ARP in Rock Hill as well as several other ARPC churches and Synod positions.  Doug and Ruth have been a blessing to our Synod and have made a huge ministry impact over these many years.  Please join us in wishing them a happy anniversary and thanking the Lord for the incredible witness of 70 years of marriage!
