The funeral service for Anne Coad Waid will be Thursday, December 9 at 2pm at Skylyn Drive Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, SC. Visitation will be held before the service beginning at noon. Please be in prayer for Rev. Peter Waid and the family during this time. The obituary follows.
Anne Coad Waid, 63, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday morning, December 6, 2021. She was born July 29, 1958, in Royston, GA. She graduated from Dixie High School in Due West, SC, attended Covenant College on Lookout Mountain, GA, and graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Recreational Therapy.
Anne worked at Orthopedic Specialties as a Medical Transcriptionist for 15 years. She was a member of Skylyn Drive Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Anne was a devoted wife of 42 years to her husband, Rev. Peter Waid.
She is survived by her four children: Matt Waid (Lauren) of Salem, SC, Kari Waid Thornton of Cowpens, SC, Michael Waid of Spartanburg, SC, and James Waid (Kaitlyn) of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren: Jay and Kelsey Thornton and Eleanor Waid; and was excited for the upcoming arrival of her fourth grandchild. Anne is also survived by her sister, Kathy Capps (Phil) of Goose Creek, SC, and brothers Rev. Jim Coad III (Galita) of Huntersville, NC, and Rev. Jac Coad (Debbie) of Tampa, FL; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Evalyn Wright and Rev. James Coad, Jr.
Anne never met a stranger. She had that special ability to make everyone she encountered feel like an old friend. She had the softest voice but a quick wit. She took great joy in knitting and sewing for her loved ones. She was an avid piano player, enjoyed singing in the church choir, and enjoyed attending the symphony concerts of her son and daughter-in-law.
You could inevitably find her on Game Day decked out in the red and black of her Georgia Bulldogs cheering them on. Anne’s greatest joy was her family. She loved her children fiercely and unconditionally. Anne’s favorite title was being “Bink” to her grandchildren that she showered with love and the greatest gift she could give them: her time. Anne’s legacy will not be what she left to her family but what she left in her family – a lifetime of memories, laughter and love.
