Update from the Good Samaritan Offering
Many thanks to those churches and individuals who have contributed to the Good Samaritan Offering since it was first launched in December 2012. Your gifts, which totaled a little over $49,000, were sent on to Samaritan’s Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org) for ministry to victims of natural disasters both in the US and in the Philippines.
Twenty-seven thousand dollars went to relief efforts following Superstorm Sandy and tornadoes in the US Midwest. In a report to the denomination last month, Samaritan’s Purse stated that it had been able to assist 2,919 families in the US in 2013. Below are excerpts a letter of thanks that accompanied the report:
Dear Friends,
On behalf of Franklin Graham, than you for your church’s partnership in ministry. Your support for our disaster relief efforts in the United States has helped to expand the Kingdom of God as volunteer teams served in disaster areas, meeting tangible needs while proclaiming the message of God’s love….
We rejoice to report the number of families assisted and the number of volunteers who served; however, we will never to able to measure all the ways God worked in the past year to restore hope and to revive people’s faith in Him. By God’s grace, we were able to witness the new birth of 543 brothers and sisters in Christ! “Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Thank you for your participation in this redemptive work. May God bless your church family as you seek to be a channel of blessing to others.
Sincerely,
Chris Johnston, Donor Ministries
Earlier this month, our denomination sent $22,464 to Samaritan’s Purse for Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts. Please pray that many lives will be changed by the Gospel as a result.
