Season of Prayer and Fasting
General Synod 2026 voted to designate the week of September 13 as a special season of prayer and fasting.

Wheeler Update
Here is an update from Rev. Howard Wheeler:
Beloved Fathers, Brothers, and Friends,
The report from my PET scan today was very positive. All sites of the cancer were significantly reduced, some not visible at all. There is still cancer in the stomach and esophagus, but it has been significantly reduced by treatment.
We met with the surgeon, who was very thorough in reviewing the scans and what their approach would be if surgery is an option. The goal of the surgery involves removal of all current cancerous and post cancerous sites.
Unfortunately, one of the lymph nodes that shrunk from 4.8cm to now <1cm is in a difficult place to access near my aorta. So the surgeon will consult with other thoracic oncologists about the safety of the procedure. If surgery is not advisable then the oncologist will recommend other treatment options to continue to reduce the cancer sites and develop a plan for ongoing treatment and review.
So, while the next step is still a little uncertain, God’s providence is not Whichever plan develops will be the right one. Thank you for your prayers today. We are very thankful for the report from the PET scan. Please pray specifically for the surgeons as they study the PET scan and assess the advisability of surgery.
