While visiting our son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren in France, I had a serious fall at our Airbnb in the middle of the night. I mistakenly stepped onto a steep spiral staircase, fell about 10 feet, and tumbled down the remaining steps. I suffered a significant head injury requiring sutures and a C1 vertebra fracture with a compression injury. Thankfully, there is no brain bleed, paralysis, or spinal fluid leakage, and the fracture is stable. I’ve been in the hospital since Sunday, mostly confined to my back, and I’m expecting to receive a neck and upper-body corset that I’ll likely wear for 2–3 months. I’m not allowed to leave the country for the foreseeable future.
I’m still in the hospital in Châteaubriant, France, and I’m grateful I remember enough French to communicate! I’m hoping to be medically transported to my son’s home in southern France once I’m released, where I’ll recuperate with my family. We are incredibly thankful and blessed. The Lord clearly protected my life—this could have been so much worse.
