Press Release from Erskine Theological Seminary

[DUE WEST, SC, March 13, 2023] Erskine Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of the Reverend Doctor Kyle E. Sims (D.Min.) as Director of Seminary Admissions and Church Relations.

Dr. Sims has a B.A. in History from Erskine College, a M.Div. from Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, a D.Min. from Erskine Theological Seminary, and is currently working on a Th.M. from Erskine Theological Seminary. Ordained as a minister in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church since 1999, he has served as Pastor of First ARP Church in Lancaster, SC, for nearly 18 years and as Chaplain of the Lancaster City Fire Department since 2006. Dr. Sims served as Vice-Moderator of the ARP General Synod in 2018–2019 and is now the Principal Clerk for the denomination.

Not only will Kyle guide the seminary’s admissions efforts, but more importantly he will lead the seminary’s deepening relationship with and commitment to the ARP Church. He will also seek to strengthen other key relationships with Reformed and evangelical denominations and churches. Dean of the Seminary, Dr. Seth J. Nelson, commented: “I give thanks to our Lord Jesus for bringing Dr. Sims to us at this pivotal time in the seminary’s history. I believe the Lord has brought Kyle to Erskine for ‘such a time as this,’ because his affable and generous disposition, his commitment to Jesus Christ and the gospel, his love for Erskine and the ARP Church, and his connections to so many fraternal churches and likeminded people combine to be exactly what Erskine needs as we build for the future.”

Erskine’s President, Dr. Steve Adamson also remarked: “As Erskine Theological Seminary prepares for the future, the appointment of Rev. Dr. Kyle Sims signals another key milestone on our journey. The Lord has gifted Dr. Sims with a pastor’s heart, desire for mentoring emerging pastors, and vast denominational experience. His love for Jesus Christ and the Church will significantly help move us toward the vision of becoming the preeminent pastor-shepherd seminary in the United States.”

Kyle is married to Kelly. They have four children, including one who is a graduate from Erskine College and another who is a current student at Erskine College

Founded in 1837, Erskine Theological Seminary prepares men and women to fulfill the Great Commission through theological higher education that is ecclesial, missional, and confessional (Matthew 28:16-20). For more information, visit our website aseminary.erskine.edu.
