Update from Rev. Steve Reynolds, pastor of Renew ARP Church in Fort Myers, FL, following Hurrican Ian.
We are continuing to recover from the hurricane. I am amazed at how quickly power has been restored and, now, we have potable water again. I was here after Hurricane Irma – which was much less destructive – and the restoration of services has been much quicker this time.
We are still dealing with many people who have lost so much – from homes to jobs. Those who have lost homes (most are still standing but the water damage was so pervasive that all furniture, memorabilia, sheetrock, and flooring had to be removed) are starting the slow process of recovery. This entails finding other housing while their places are being restored.
The church building did sustain more roof damage than we initially thought. Thankfully the landlord is following up and hopefully, repairs will start very soon.
Overall, we are doing very well as a church family. God is good and has spared us from loss of life or health. I am also amazed at how other ARP churches have begun to chip in to help us with the recovery process. We have a strong need for benevolence funds to help supplement hurricane deductibles (for those who literally work paycheck-to-paycheck) and lost pay for those in the same category. We are blessed.
