Union ARP Church in Richburg, SC provided Lewisville teachers and staff with a BBQ lunch on May 5, 2021, as part of Teacher Appreciation Week.
This endeavor took two days to accomplish. Joe Howell and Rev. Neely Gaston loaded the church’s new grill with 30 pork butts the day before the lunch. They carefully watched the temperature gauge as they smoked the meat. It’s important to keep in mind that the pork will continue to cook internally after it is removed from the grill.
When the meat was ready, Joe Howell shared his techniques for pulling the pork and preparing it to be left overnight in the full-size holding cabinet.
On the day of the lunch, volunteers arrived at 7:30 to begin preparing the to-go-boxed lunches for each of the three schools in the Lewisville community. The elementary school’s lunchtime is 10:15 and this meant volunteers needed to have lunches ready to go out the door at 9:30.
With the help of our volunteers, we provided 170 BBQ lunches to Lewisville teachers and staff at three locations for their service to our community. We also had meals to send to people at the local fire department and members of our church family. In all, we prepared and delivered a total of 211 meals.
We recognize that teachers have a very significant, lifelong impact on all of their students. We appreciate everything they do for our community and we look forward to making this an annual event.
Great job.
God bless you all.
